Car Access: The hike starts and finishes at the Silvan Reservoir Park overflow carpark which is on Stonyford Road, Silvan (this is off Monbulk Road). Drive past the first Silvan Reservoir Park carpark on the left and take the next right which is presently signed (Melways Ref: 120 H11).
This begins along the same route as the Grey Gum Track Circuit that is also suggested in the ParkWeb Park Note. It is shorter but is also the nicest option for a (short) walk if visiting Silvan Reservoir. If you’re just looking for a short walk to do in the Dandenongs, there are many nicer walks to choose from.
Start by heading down the stairs at the north end of the carpark and turn right at the first intersection. There are quite a lot of weeds and non-native grasses at the beginning of the walk but as you get further from the carpark, everything seems more natural. Bits of the track are overgrown so there is a bit of ducking and weaving involved.
After two sets of stairs, turn right and continue to stick to the right from here until you find yourself near the carpark. I spotted heaps of crimson rosellas and walked to the constant sound of cackling kookaburras. I also spotted an echidna foraging in the ground cover beside the track.
