I mentioned in my post about Uluru and Kata Tjuta that I thought every Australian (and possibly every human) should walk there at least once in their lives. Well the same goes for this place. It was one of the most extraordinary, almost otherworldly places I’ve ever seen. I even befriended a Spinifex pigeon (see him below).

I decided to combine the Kings Creek Walk with the Rim Walk for a longer day’s walking. I’d suggest you do the same. The short walk along Kings Creek into the canyon is very easy, and it’s great to get an idea of what you’ll be looking down at from the Rim Walk above.

If you’ve read the aforementioned previous post, you’ll already know why I don’t have much to say about this walk. I hope the photos speak for themselves.

Map: A great map is available from NT Parks & Wildlife.
Length (km): 8.6 km
Time (hrs/min): 4.5 hrs
Grade: Strenuous
Return / Circuit / One-Way / Partial Circuit: Partial Circuit
Park: Watarrka National Park
Closest Town: Alice Springs (330 km)
Getting There: There are several options available which are well-detailed on the Kings Canyon Resort website.
Accommodation: I found a great deal on a Spa Room at Kings Canyon Resort, and highly recommend you do the same if you can find something within your price range. I can’t speak for any of the other nearby accommodation options.
Further Info: The Rim Walk starts with a 500 step climb which may turn some people off, but I assure you it will be worth the climb. If you haven’t already, check out my photos from Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Uluru is only about 300 kilometres from Kings Canyon, so may also be worth visiting if you’re in the area.
