Neither my words nor my photo’s can do justice to this amazing little piece of rainforest. There is no particular feature along Maits Rest Rainforest Walk that stands out… The entire circuit will have you gasping.
I’ve read that swamp wallabies, koalas, ring-tailed possums and grey kangaroo’s are common in the area but we weren’t lucky enough to witness any of these. I wasn’t suprised as the walk is on the Great Ocean Road, so it is quite busy.
Despite the fact that it’s extremely short, I’d strongly recommend that you pay Maits Rest a visit if you’re in the area.
A bridge on the walk crosses a very nice little creek

Hey Neil,
hitting up Mait’s Rest on Friday with the camera/video gear. Can’t wait. Like your description above was reminded how sometimes you don’t need to hike for hours on end to see extreme natural beauty. Looking forward to sharing experience.
As always thanks for sharing.

Hey Nick,
Awesome! Can’t wait to see what you come up with. So much good footage to be shot there, without too far to walk. Enjoy!
Cheers
Neil
Hi Jen,
If I had to choose between the two I'd definitely choose this one. The waterfalls in the area are nicer to visit than both Melba Gully and Maits Rest though.
Cheers
Neil
Thanks for your information!
Quick question, my friend and I will be in the area and I'm wondering which you'd suggest between this one and Melba Gully. (We're also doing the Triplet Falls).
Maits rest is a beautiful spot but all the tour buses go there. Another spot to go is Melba Gully which is just west of Lavers Hill. Less people go there, plus there are toilet facilities. Other places to go are Triplet Falls and the other walks near Beech Forest.
Thanks for the comments! You're right about Melba Gullyand Triplet Falls – less busy and just such beautiful spots. I've blogged about both of them so you could try the search box if you wanted to find them.
Cheers
Neil
Hi Frank,
Thanks for the comment and hilarious (almost) story about your visit to Maits Rest! 🙂
I’ll send you an e-mail now…
Cheers

Geday Neil,
Sorry to say but I just found your terrific blog. Well done on it all! (and thanks for the link!)
I have VERY fond memories of Maits Rest 30 plus years ago when Sue and I visited there during our ‘courting” days…no one was around (and there was NO infrastructure there) we wandered off track a bit and well, too much detail for here. Yep, VERY fond memories of that summer day at Maits Rest!
Drop me an email sometime via Our Blog, would love to keep in touch (have a few links and bit of reading that may (or may not) interest you)
